7-String Success
Charlie Hunter wows audiences
| | More
For even the staunchest critics of jazz, Charlie Hunter represents something to be reckoned with. He’s a rare breed: the jazz guitarist. Often left out of the thunderous keys players, bellowing horns and percussive snares are guitar players. But 7-string guitarist Charlie Hunter brings jazz sensibility to every piece he plays. His free-form yet interlocking notes provide audiences with more than enough entertainment, but Hunter is always sure to provide instrumental assistance in his performances that bring him to the next level. March 27 and 28, Hunter will play two shows nightly with renowned musicians Alan Ferber (trombone), Curtis Folkes(trombone), Eric Kolb (drums) and Mike Williams (trumpet) at Jazz Standard.
What’s truly remarkable about Charlie Hunter’s playing is that he does so much by himself. Notably missing from the aforementioned lineup is a rhythm section; this is because Hunter will be doing it all on his own. His 7-string guitar allows him to play lead on the first four strings and bass on the last three. That’s some pretty fancy fingerboard work and makes for a performance as visually entrancing as it is melodically stirring.
Charlie Hunter’s guitar prowess will be in hand for two days only, so get your tickets while they last. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting www.jazzstandard.com.
