Both a hilarious satirical send-up of Broadway classics and an off-the-cuff history lesson on America’s theatrical history, Forbidden Broadway packs plenty of punch for all who see. The show, which has enjoyed a multi-decade history and many different inceptions, is coming to SOPAC Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 8 pm.

Forbidden Broadway is essentially a collection of musical parodies. Originally thought up by Gerard Alessandrini, it made its first appearance on the Upper West Side in 1982 and has delighted New York audiences ever since, becoming New York’s longest running musical revue. The great thing about Forbidden Broadway is that as times (and Broadway shows) change, so does the content in Forbidden Broadway. The show often incorporates new material and fresh send-ups, making it the kind of entertainment that brings in repeat viewers and breathes new life into its performances.

Equally entertaining for those studied in Broadway classics and show tune standards as well as those who wouldn’t know West Side Story from West New York, Forbidden Broadway represents the rare opportunity to enjoy theater even if you’re not the typical theater-lover—and to learn something along the way.

The performance at the South Orange Performing Arts Center of Forbidden Broadway will take place Saturday, February 6 at 8pm. Tickets for the show are $35 and $45 and are available by visiting www.sopacnow.org or by calling (973)313-ARTS (2787).
