For seven years Jazz Standard has hosted Tango Meets Jazz, a festival that highlights the intoxicating marriage of traditional jazz with South American musical elements. This year’s festival will feature and be directed by pianist Pablo Ziegler whose individual jazz style exists in a class all its own.

Ziegler is widely regarded as the world’s most recognized arbiter of nuevo tengo, and it makes sense why. The style itself is representative of a new tango, one which has been infused with and transformed by the modern and classical elements of jazz. Ziegler, who is dually based in Buenos Aires and New York City is perfectly poised to represent this melting pot of musicality. He will be joined in these gigs at Jazz Standard (December 10–13) by a group of incredibly talented musicians. Claudio Ragazzi on guitar, Héctor del Curto will be playing the bandoneon and Pedro Giraudo will keep the pace on the bass. A pair of saxophonists will be supporting Ziegler in split nights—Miguel Zenon on Thursday and Friday and David Sanzhez on Saturday and Sunday.

The Tango Meets Jazz Festival is produced by Pat Philips and Ettore Stratta and serves as the jazz fan’s best place to observe the emerging sounds of nuevo tango. Tickets are $30 and available for purchase now at www.jazzstandard.com.
