We’re going to do something a little different this week. Instead of the normal “Seven Days, Seven Shows,” which highlights just the shows to see in one particular week, we’re gonna pick ten shows you need to see…for all of September, which is proving to be an amazing month for concerts in New York City. Here we go:

Built to Spill
September 2, 7 p.m.
Rocks Off Concert Cruise

Raved about them once before; now, they’re on a boat! $30

All Tomorrow’s Parties
September 3-5
Kutshers Country Club

It’s worth the price of admission just to hear Iggy and the Stooges playing their best album, Raw Power, but Sonic Youth, Explosions in the Sky, Sleep, the Greenhornes, the Breeders and tons more are performing as well. $250

Dirty Projectors
September 11, 8 p.m.
Terminal 5

Although the Dirty Projectors didn’t hit it big until 2009’s Bitte Orca (one of the year’s finest albums), Dave Longstreth & Co. have been around since 2003. In-between, they released The Getty Address, a concept album about Don Henley, and Rise Above, which contains Black Flag songs re-imagined from memory. The Dirty Projectors are wonderfully weird and (somehow) actually sound better live than they do on their albums. $25

Vampire Weekend w/ Beach House
September 15-17, 8 p.m.
Radio City Music Hall

Vampire Weekend really shouldn’t have released Contra in January. Like their self-titled debut, it’s a perfect summer album and seems oddly irritating in the middle of winter, although “Giving Up the Gun” is great in any weather. Beach House also released an album, Teen Dream, in January, and come this December, it’ll appear again—on lots of end-of-the-year lists. $39.50

Superchunk
September 18/September 19
Bowery Ballroom/Music Hall of Williamsburg

If you managed to get tickets for either one of these shows, respect. They both sold out almost immediately and with good reason: Superchunk rarely goes on tour and they’re about to release their first album, the brilliantly-named Majesty Shredding, in nine years. $22/$22

Pavement w/Jenny & Johnny
September 19/September 21-24
Williamsburg Waterfront/Central Park SummerStage

A year in the making—unless you bought the Waterfront tickets, in which case you’ve only been two or three months. No matter what show you go to, you’re gonna hear every song you want to, including “Spit On a Stranger” and “Here.” $38.50

Wavves
September 21, 7:30 p.m.
Music Hall of Williamsburg

Discover what the hype’s all about—and why King of the Beach has been compared to Dookie. As one wise friend put it, “Wavves is like Bright Eyes with balls.” $15

Titus Andronicus
September 25, 6 p.m.
Webster Hall

They have my favorite (and most accurate) “about me” ever:

Titus Andronicus take their name from a minor Shakespearean tragedy, not, as many people believe, from some sort of killer robot from the future. Titus Andronicus released an album earlier this year on XL Recordings called The Monitor. Titus Andronicus like to scream and carry on at excessive volume. Titus Andronicus like songs which are fast more than songs which are slow. Titus Andronicus think slow songs are okay sometimes. Titus Andronicus never sing about love, only hate. Titus Andronicus have no hope for the future. Everyone in Titus Andronicus was born to die. Titus Andronicus crave your approval but will settle for your utter disdain. The enemy is everywhere.

Sounds ‘bout right. $16

Best Coast
September 29, 8 p.m.
Bowery Ballroom

We didn’t much care for their last NYC show, but we’re willing to give them another chance, considering how great Crazy for You is. Plus, they’re not playing outdoors in a Seaport this time. $15

Belle & Sebastian w/ Teenage Fanclub
September 30, 5:30 p.m.
Williamsburg Waterfront

This is Belle’s first show in New York in four years. Who knows how long it’ll take for our favorite tweesters to show up again? See ‘em while you can. $37.50
