On July 7, 2007 at 7:07 p.m., the Japanese noise rock group Boredoms performed “77 Boa Drum,” which consisted of 77 drummers performing at the same time at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park (Wikipedia has a list of all the drummers involved). Kind of makes “76 Trombones” seem boring, no? Now, more than three years later, the concert, simply entitled 77 Boa Drum, will be released on DVD on September 7.
The performance was filmed by Jun Kawaguchi and various web-TV sites and YouTube cameraman, and Kawaguchi has edited everything together for a 89 minute documentary. Along with the DVD release, the film will be screened at indieScreen on September 1 at 8 and 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
And, if you’re wondering, Boredoms did perform “88 Boa Drum” and “Boa Drum 9.”
