Summer’s nearly finished, meaning most free film screenings are done too—at least until 2011. But there are still two places showing some great movies outdoors, even if it might be a little cold.

Beginning August 24, the Central Park Conservancy Film Festival will screen films with the theme of “Iconic New York.” All the movies shown will “feature New York’s most famous locations and sights—from the Empire State Building in King Kong to the City’s subway in The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.”

The eighth annual festival, presented by Bloomberg, will be held in the landscape north of Sheep Meadow, behind Mineral Springs (mid-Park at 69th Street). You should enter the park at 72nd Street. Screenings begin at 8 p.m. rain or shine.
