Tulsa Ballet at the Joyce
The versatile dance company returns to New York City after 25 years
Tulsa Ballet
It has been 25 years since the Tulsa Ballet graced the New York stage with their exquisite technique, and innovating choreography. The company will return to New York in a big way this summer (August 10–15) at the Joyce Theatre in Chelsea district. Although it has been some time since the Tulsa Ballet showcased their work in the city, their artistic mission has remained constant throughout the years, which has been to combine the beauty and joy expressed by dance with the drama and entertainment of the theatre.
Tulsa Ballet was founded in 1956 by husband and wife internationally-known dance duo, Roman Jasinski and Moscelyne Larkin, who began the company with quality and versatility as their primary mission. This year’s Joyce debut will feature a triple bill of work lead by artistic director Marcello Angelini. Performances will include Nacho Duato’s Por Vos Muero, Sir Kenneth MacMIllan’s Elite Syncopation, and Young Soon Hue’s This is Your Life. Staying true to the companies focus on versatility, the ballet will showcase a wide repertory that spans throughout history beginning with a man who wrote dance history; like Sir Kenneth MacMillan in the 19th century, a man that is writing dance history, like Nacho Duato, and a third piece by a skillful young talent whose current pieces are gaining her a great deal of notoriety. With the pairing of astonishing talent, iconic choreography and rich music like the contemporary scores by Scott Joplin used in Elite Syncopation, the Tulsa Ballet will be nothing short of mesmerizing.
