Trumpet great Terence Blanchard plays the Jazz Standard
Terence Blanchard
Terence Blanchard, the sought after trumpeter/band leader/film composer is making a rare appearance at the Jazz Standard. Blanchard who has won three Grammys, including one for his trumpet solo on last year’s studio session of players from his Monterey Jazz Festival tour, is also an accomplished film composer, penning the score for Spike Lee’s Hurricane Katrina documentary When the Levees Broke.
The dates at Jazz Standard, July 21–26, mark a departure as of late for Blanchard who has traded intimate jazz club settings for jazz festival tours. The opportunity to see Blanchard in a close setting is truly special, as audience members will be beguiled by his blend of smooth and frenetic styles, many of which he draws from his home state of Louisiana. In fact, Blanchard is so committed to the preservation of the art of New Orleans that he enacted the “Commitment to New Orleans Initiative” through his role as artistic director at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. To watch Blanchard continue the rich jazz tradition of the Big Easy in person, visit jazzstandard.net for more information.
