Stefon Harris Performs at NYC’s Jazz Standard

All Media

Vibraphonist and composer Stefon Harris is bringing his band Blackout to the Jazz Standard to share their unique and innovative contemporary jazz stylings with his hometown New York City jazz scene. Harris, hailed as one of the world’s top vibraphonists, united with Blackout on 2004’s Evolution and has been touring consistently to share the group’s distinctive modern jazz.

The band will play shows at the Jazz Standard July 16–19, coming off of a critically acclaimed performance at the Bonnaroo Festival. Harris, who attended the Manhattan School of Music, broke out of the gate on the jazz scene in 1998 and was long sought after as a sideman. Since emerging as a leader of his own band, his live and studio performances have earned him the nomenclatures original and exciting, as well as making him one of jazz music’s young artists to watch.

Stefon Harris & Blackout have received acclaim for their live shows because of the inventive juxtaposition of otherwise often disparate musical styles. A sound that Harris describes as “acoustic and progressive,” the excitement continues on stage as Stefon Harris and Blackout deliver an enigmatic live performance.
