Criminal Intent
Jim Jarmusch’s version of life outside the law
Isaach De Bankole in The Limits of Control
The Limits of Control follows criminal Isaach De Bankole, a loner whose existence is as dream like as the Spanish backdrop of the film. De Bankole’s character wears a suit like Miles Davis and has the cool exterior to match. Even when perched on a rock on the side of a mountain, the crook’s two-piece is worn perfectly.
De Bankole has been in several Jarmusch films, and the director once again uses a cast of his favorites, including Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton, both of whom appeared in his last film, Broken Flowers.
True to his style, Jarmusch did not craft a typical crime caper. Just as Dead Man was a slower paced and harrowing account of the Wild West, The Limits of Control is the director’s own version of life outside the law. Like Forest Whitaker’s character in Ghost Dog, De Bankole is an outlaw, and like Murray’s character in Broken Flowers and Johnny Depp’s character in Dead Man, we follow him on his singular journey while enjoying a wide and entertaining cast of characters.
Opens May 22.
