Saving Dough at the Theater
Every penny counts when movies cost $20
| | More
The always fantastic Brokelyn had a post yesterday about Brooklyn movie theaters with matinee pricing. It always surprises me how people know about these discounted tickets, so I’d like to add one more option: Every day before noon, all AMC theaters also have matinee prices. Meaning, if you live in a New York City, a movie that normally costs $12 will only set you back $6 if you see it at, say, 11:30 a.m. And before you say, “Only the unemployed go to movies on weekday mornings,” know that these prices are for both the weekdays and weekends.
But not even half-price tickets can make you feel less guilty about The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by yourself on a Tuesday morning.
Other suggestions: Look for free screenings from Time Out New York e-newsletters, Gofobo, the film section of the Village Voice on Wednesday mornings and My Movie Screenings. Or you can become a film critic, get hired by a magazine and get all the free screenings you could ever want. That’d almost make up for the awful film critic salary.
