Well, I can’t actually say. I can’t say much, in fact. Don’t want to ruin the surprise for everyone. Plus, that whole confidentially agreement I signed…
I’ll say this much, though: By the end of the “Starbox” experience, created by art.party.theater.company, I wasn’t sure who was an actor and who was “real,” so to speak. I knew coming in that surrounding the 8×8 box were going to be actors playing agents, personal assistants, security guards and other Hollywood occupations who were there to sell the idea of a celebrity being inside the box. What I didn’t expect to see were fake-tourists, who were there for no other discernible reason than to increase the crowd around the exhibition, There were also street musicians, a bickering couple, an out-of-town daughter waiting for her awful mother to take her home and other various characters that didn’t seem out of place at Bryant Park, only an avenue away from Times Square.
I was the last second-to-last person to enter the box for the night, and while I must admit I was bit disappointed when I exited, I do give art.party.theater.company credit for making me wonder, in a Truman Show kind of way, who around me was playing a role and who was an actual person. Then again, in Midtown, are any of us really real?
Woah.
