Now J. Peterman can afford all the $29,000 slices of cake he wants.
John O’Hurley, best known for playing Elaine’s self-satisfied boss on Seinfeld, will return to the role of Billy Flynn in Chicago, which he last played during the show’s 2006 national tour. The musical revival is the sixth longest-running Broadway show of all-time with nearly 6,000 performances at the Richard Rogers Theatre, Shubert Theatre and it’s current home, the Ambassador Theatre.
He takes over the role of the fast talking, slick lawyer from Colman Domingo for a six-week engagement (July 20-August 29), and joins a cast that includes Ruthie Henshall (Roxie Hart), Amra-Faye Wright (Velma Kelly) and Carol Woods (Matron “Mama” Morton).
O’Hurley’s made quite the career of his good looks and smooth voice: He nearly won season one of Dancing with the Stars; has hosted the annual Purina Dog Showon Thanksgiving since 2002; and played King Arthur in the Las Vegas and Los Angeles productions of Spamalot.
Still, don’t be surprised if he flees to Burma for no particular reason.
