Exposed to the fascinating daily grind of Broadway at a young age, Amanda Green found herself inspired. The future member of the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and Upper West Side-resident, showed interest in Broadway as early as age nine when she played the role of Maria in her summer camp’s rendition of West Side Story. After graduating from Brown University, Green put even more attention and effort in cultivating her craft by attending an actor’s training program at Circle in the Square and taking part in the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Aside from acting, she also has a knack for songwriting.
She’s the lyricist behind such musicals as For the Love of Tiffany: A Wifetime Original Musical, High Fidelity, Once Upon a Primetime and Up the Week Without a Paddle, which earned her a nomination from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle. She is currently writing lyrics and music for the upcoming musical Hands on a Hardbody, based on the 1997 documentary about 24 contestants attempting to keep their hand on a truck the longest with the winner recieving said truck. She is also collaborating with Tom Kitt (American Idiot, Next to Normal) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (In the Heights) on Bring it On: The Musical, scheduled to make its debut at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta in January 2011.
If that’s not enough: She’s also performed at the famous Bluebird Café while living in Nashville in the ’90s; written episodes of Nickelodeon’s Wonder Pets; and regularly contributes to Playboy. She’s a busy and talented woman, but not too busy that she can’t take time off her schedule to perform live.
Amanda Green will be performing at Birdland (315 W. 44th St.) on July 19 at 7 p.m. The Larson Award-winner will perform alongside with Jenn Colella (High Fidelity), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Andy Karl (Wicked, Saturday Night Fever) and Howard McGillin (The Phantom of the Opera, Anything Goes). Tickets can be purchased here.
