There are plenty of musicians who have written books before, including Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen (let’s not talk about Bob Dylan’s Tarantula). What’s much more rare is a collaboration between an artist and writer. But when a genre that doesn’t exist needs to be created, Brooklyn comes a-callin’.

“Show Off Your Sugar: One Band+One Author” is a series of collaborations between authors and musicians for the benefit of music nerds and, more importantly, 826NYC, a nonprofit organization that helps children between the ages of 6-18 with their writing skills.

Taking place at Coco 66 (66 Greenpoint Ave.) and part of the L Magazine’s Northside Festival, the first event takes place tonight, June 25, with Norwegian singer songwriter Sondre Lerche and Brooklyn’s own Oberhofer playing music and This American Life contributor Shalom Auslander reading. And on August 11, Here We Go Magic will play an acoustic set with everyone’s favorite red head/GQ contributor: Chuck Klosterman. More shows will be announced shortly.

Both events begin at 8 p.m. and cost $16, with all the proceeds going to 826NYC. Tickets can be purchased here.
