Every comedy club has their own unique happenings each month. Gotham (208 W. 23rd St.) has “Gotham All Stars: All Pro Show” and Comic Strip Live (1568 2nd Ave.) has “Comedy Caliente.” Encore appreciates both venues, as they often that showcase great fresh local comedians. But there is another venue we can’t overlook: Comix (356 W. 14th St.). The comedy club opened on September 2006 in New York City’s Meatpacking District, and while it’s fairly new compared to its counterparts, many respected talents like Zach Galifianakis, Jim Gaffigan, and Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords, have already graced its impressive stage.

What’s been happening at Comix lately? Well, “The Daily Show and Friends” are spreading the funny around (I consider myself lucky to have witnessed their brilliant talents). The best part of their routine is that they present a different kind of funny each week. A variety of comedians grace the Comix stage each week to satisfy everyone’s funny palate. The production also includes regular visits by Rob Riggle, Wyatt Cenac, Kristen Schaal and John Oliver.

Rory Albanese is the executive producer of The Daily Show (he joined Lewis Black’s “Red White and Screwed Tour in 2006”). He is also responsible for this spectacular event. He brings fellow funny people together to distribute a lot of laughter, and all are connected to The Daily Show.

The show I went to was hosted by The Daily Show‘s Supervising Producer Adam Lowitt, and the line-up included Josh Rabinowitz, Brendan McLaughin (who evidently really hates Nicolas Cage), Jenna Kim Jones, Rachel Feinstein, and Rory Albanese, who used his $300 buck knife as prop). A very special funny guest closed the evening: Dave Attell.

”The Daily Show and Friends” will present yet another set of funny ranting at Comix on Wednesday, July 28. Advance tickets are $15, but if you buy tickets the day of the show at their booth, it’ll cost $20. For more information about “The Daily Show and Friends,” you can check out www.comixny.com.
