Dan Goggins returns home to the Cherry Lane Theatre with his outlandish and hilarious musical, Nunsense, about a group of nuns that come from across the Hudson in Hoboken. They realize that one of their own sisters has accidentally poisoned 52 fellow nuns, leaving them with the responsibility of fundraising for burials. Since its premiere 25 years ago, the musical has traveled the globe delighting audiences in a multitude of different languages.  Goggins, who wrote and directed the musical, has since expanded Nunsense with the addition of seven more original works of the same theme. The success of Nunsense is simple: it’s overwhelmingly funny. Goggins has dedicated most of his professional life to these women of the cloth to bring joy and laughter to his audience.

Domestic critical acclaim—such as the 1986 Outer Critics’ Circle Awards for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Music—demonstrate that Goggins’s work holds a common thread for fun that no one can deny. The sisters of Nunsense have even managed to leave the stage and cross over into to television with movies created by A&E and PBS. Goggins’s musicals serve as a remedy for work-induced stress, using a wacky plot to take the edge off.

Nunsense will be performed at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.) from June 13-July 18. Ticket purchases and more information can be found at www.cherrylanetheatre.org
