This city has been home to citizens of the world for many years now. We have the Statue of Liberty to remind the rest of the world that in here, life could be better. That is why it is only fitting that uptown’s Second Stage Theatre presents Year Zero written by Los Angeles-based Michael Golamco. The production opened on May 26, 2010 and will run until June 13. The play, directed by Will Frears features actress Maureen Sebastian (Gossip Girl and Fragments) and actors Mason Lee (Ang Lee’s The Hire), Louis Ozawa Changchien (Predators) and Peter Kim (Sex and the City).

Every immigrant has a unique story to tell about their journey. Year Zero narrates a story that is quite different from the others. This particular story focuses on Vuthy (Mason Lee) – a 16-year-old Cambodian American. Vuthy is fond of hip-hop and a skull that he grabbed from a trip back to Cambodia. His mother’s recent death shakes the family’s core. The only person he has left is his sister Ra (Maureen Sebastian). Both are distraught over the lost of their mother and both have their ways of dealing with it. The situation brings more questions about their family’s past but being unfamiliar with their Cambodian heritage, they find themselves facing a dead end. They must now start from nothing.

Year Zero will be playing at the 3rd floor of McGinn Cazale Theatre on 76th & Broadway. For ticket inquiry, call (212) 246-4422 or visit http://www.2st.com.
