Where will you be on March 26? Well, frankly, it doesn’t matter where you will be. It’s what you will be doing. Dancing.
Since 2005, when artist and dancer Beth Fein started dance anywhere® in Berkeley, California, the annual project has expanded to include people from all around the United States and the world, including places as far away as Argentina, Turkey, Italy, France and Australia. The project itself is very simple. It is an open invitation to for people to stop what they are doing at noon, pacific stand time, and dance.
For Los Angeles residents, that means 12 pm, for New Yorkers, it’s would be 3 pm and in Paris is would be 8 pm and so on around the world respectively.
On the project’s website, they write “dance anywhere® brings everyone’s atttention to their immediate environment and brings awareness to the change that dance and art brings as it converges with their day.”
They invite participants to share their experience by taking photos, shooting videos, drawing, or writing to express themselves and document the event. In addition, participants can put themselves on the map by registering their dance as part of the worldwide phenomenon.
Whether you will be at work, at school, at home or out and about, don’t forget to take a moment to do a little dance.
