Gershwin Sings Gershwin

In the 70s, Paul McCartney wondered if people “would’ve had enough of silly love songs,” but we’re looking around today and seeing that is still isn’t so.

And nothing makes Valentine’s Day as romantic as a silly timeless song…

George and Ira Gershwin created some of the most romantic classics and on Sunday, February 14, Alexis Gershwin will revive the romance and the harmony of her uncles’ music at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.

Gershwin will share personal stories and new arrangements of classic songs such as including They Can’t Take That Away From Me, Embraceable You, I Can’t Get Started, I’ve Got a Crush on You, and Our Love Is Here to Stay.

Alexis Gershwin has been singing these songs since a very young age. While her friends were out listening to and raving about the beats and bangs of rock n’ roll, Alexis Gershwin was singing 40’s and 50’s styled love ballads instead.

“Ever since I was a little girl, this is the only music I’ve ever wanted to sing,” she says. “It touches my heart like nothing else.”

“There will always be room for romantic music, because people always need to be reminded that they are loved.”

If you’re looking for a reminder that you’re loved or for just a romantic afternoon of classic songs, find your way to the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts to hear a Gershwin sing some Gershwin and touch your heart “like nothing else”
