Victorian Valentine Tour

| | More

On February 14 this year, you can find yourself in an entirely different world. This is the world enclosed in the walls of the Grier Musser Museum in Los Angeles. The museum is having a special Victorian Valentine tour for the holiday, with antique Valentines, Teddy Bears, and Kewpie Dolls on display.

The museum itself was actually once a residence, built in 1898 in the Queen Anne style of Victorian architecture. Regular visitors can look at the intricate architectural features of the house such as the woodwork and the colorful Victorian stained-glass windows, and the wood-burning cooking stove in the kitchen.

Dr. Anna Krieger acquired the house in 1984 and established the museum in honor of her mother, Anna Grier Musser. The collection of antiques at the museum includes countless items from the family’s history. Some of these include hand-made quilts, china dolls, watercolor paintings, Haviland china and clothing from the 19th Century. The collection of antiques at the museum includes countless items from the family’s history.

The museum has gone through so many generations that it even has a history of Valentine’s Day events. On February 13, 1988, the Los Angeles Times published this article (http://articles.latimes.com/1988-02-13/news/vw-10660_1_grier-musser-museum) by William S. Murphy about a similar event at the very same museum.

If your Valentine is the type who sits around reading Victorian novels and fantasizing about the day when you will magically transform into a Victorian prince, this might just be the Valentine’s Day activity you’re looking for…
