Two young indie bands will play their latest songs at a free summer performance in the Hammer Museum’s courtyard. The Hammer Museum and KCRW have come together to sponsor four free “Also I Like to Rock” concerts this July. On Thursday, July 22, the rising stars, Voxhaul Broadcast and Chasing Kings, will perform at 8 pm.
Voxhaul Broadcast is one of the headlining artists for the program. The performance will be kicked off with a KCRW DJ at 7pm, prior to the indie artists. Voxhaul Broadcast has become known for their hit song, Rotten Apples. According to their website, the band formed in Orange County, California and continues to be inspired by artists like The Beatles and James Brown. Their talent was finally noticed in 2007 when they joined Retone Records. However, they now have a different manager. Their popular beats are sure to catch the attention of Southern California listeners.
Another developing indie-pop ensemble, Chasing Kings, will also perform on July 22. Their latest work, The Current State of Our Future, has drawn people to their fan base. Together, the four young men work together to create a sound that entertains the ears.
To enjoy VIP privileges at the upcoming concerts, the Hammer is offering a special “Rock the Summer Pass” for only 25 dollars. The pass will provide a first class experience for all the concerts included in the “Also I Like to Rock” series, and even serves as a temporary membership to the Hammer Museum and KCRW.
Buzz Bands LA will curate the event. Kevin Bronson blogs on Buzz Bands about a variety of musicians and topics dealing with music. He continues to write about musical issues and events, from his viewpoint, for the Los Angeles Times.
There won’t be a quiet moment at the upcoming concert, with DJ Chuck P. spinning songs while the next artist prepares to take the stage. Also, the museum’s gallery will stay open for viewing until 9 pm. Indie fans can come groove to the sounds of these young artists for free. Reservations are not needed but there is limited seating for the event. Concertgoers can park under for museum for only three dollars after 6 pm.
