The Huntington Theatre Company continues its groundbreaking dedication to American stories this theatrical season with a spring presentation of Becky Shaw. Uniquely modern and transgenerationally insightful, the play written by successful playwright Gina Gionfriddo is comical and honest. The play will be presented at the Huntington March 5–April 4, 2010.

Huntington Artistic Director Peter Dubois explains Becky Shaw’s appeal, “Becky Shaw makes me laugh out loud in the skillful way it examines human behavior and personal relationships. This is exactly what great comedy should do. Gina has written a sharp, cunning play that shifts our perspective about the tensions between love, money, and happiness.” The set-up for the play is simple: a newly married couple decides to set up two of their friends on a blind date. One, the friend of the bride, is a sharp-tongued money manager named Max. The other, a co-worker of the groom is the title character, a woman who is at first glance timid. What ensues is the date from hell, ending in the police station. But the real meat of the story is in the aftereffects of the setup. The young couple is forced to grapple with the emotional consequences of the night and find that their own relationship is perhaps not as solid as they once thought.

Becky Shaw will be presented by the Huntington Theatre Company March 5–April 4. All performances will be staged at the Boston University Theatre (264 Huntington Avenue). To purchase tickets or for more information, please visit www.huntingtontheatre.org.
