Lei-Sanne Doo: She Was Wise

| | More

Boston boasts an astounding array of artists, creating in and calling home to the city whose art world doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. Now, two artists living and working in the greater Boston area are going to get their time in the spotlight as Gestural: Paintings, Drawings and Mixed Media Works comes to the Towne Art Gallery.

Gestural: Paintings, Drawings and Mixed Media Works displays the works of Lei-Sanne Doo and Mary Tinker Hatch. While expressing differing techniques and viewpoints, both artists often create works that are both gestural and direct—referencing directly and using allusive techniques and references to evoke particular emotions in viewers. Both artists also use “natural” imagery quite often, creating visual depth with the use of layers and colors to draw the viewer in. The end effect is art that is visually seductive at first glance but which also invites viewers to ponder over a long period of time, processing and unpeeling the layers to reveal their own interpretation.

Gestural: Paintings, Drawings and Mixed Media Works will be shown at the Towne Art Gallery at Wheelock College (200 The Riverway, Boston, Massachusetts 02215) February 2–27, 2010. Gallery hours are 12-5pm, Tuesday-Saturday with the gallery being closed Friday, February 13, 2010. There will be a reception to honor Gestural February 6, 2010 from 2–4 pm.
